Vaughan Williams’ Folk Showcase Finale – Performance
1.00pm-2.30pm, John Peel Centre

Our young showcase musicians have been working hard on a selection of traditional songs collected by Ralph Vaughan Williams in the first part of the 1900s around East Anglia. A Showcase of their work can be seen at the John Peel Centre in a live performance at 1pm as well as a film showing recorded performances of a selection of schools and community groups across East Anglia who have taken part in the project. Morris & Molly Dancing
Around the town from 11am-4pm

Across the town come and watch the colourful spectacle of Morris and Molly Dancing. There may even be opportunities to join in!

We are delighted to be joined by the following Dance Sides:

Haughley Hoofers ~ Boudicca Morris ~ AnnieMation ~ Green Dragon Morris ~ Milkmaid Molly – Danegeld  – Bury Fair – Rising Larks – East Suffolk Morris  – Hoxon Hundred – Pretty Grim

You can see these local dance sides across the town from 11.00am-11.45am; 12.00pm-12.45pm; 2.00pm-2.45pm with a Grand Finale in the Market Square at 4pm.

Instrumental Workshop with Rosewood
11.00am-12.00pm – Library Meeting Room

Local band Rosewood teach one of their Instrumental pieces for ANY instrument including D/G melodeon. ALL MUSICIANS WELCOME!

Stepdancing – a living East Anglian dance tradition
12.00pm-1.00pm Workshop at St Peter’s Hall
2.00pm-4.00pm Stepdancing, Church Grounds

St Peter’s Hall will be the place to drop in to for a free Stepdance Workshop with Kerry Fletcher and musician Tim Brooks from 12.00pm-1.00pm. You can then try out your newly acquired skills in the afternoon in the Church Grounds of St Peter’s & St Mary’s with our traditional stepdancers led by Fiona Davies 2.00pm-4.00pm. If you’re not up to dancing, why not try your hand at dancing some wooden dolls instead!?

The Music Box Archive with Megan Wisdom
1.00pm-4.00pm, The Library Meeting Room

Megan Wisdom continues her work in collecting Field Recordings of singers currently involved in the local traditional music scene. Book a half hour slot via info@eatmt.org.uk in advance of the day or sign up at the Wristband Office in St Peter’s Hall on arrival.

Broom Dancing Workshop
1.30pm-2.30pm, St Peter’s Hall

Erin Brown and Barry Watson will guide you through the skills of Broom Dancing another local tradition in a free workshop at St Peter’s Hall from 1.30pm-2.30pm.

Traditional Instruments – Have a Go!
English Concertina & 1 Row Melodeon, 10.30am-11.30am
Dulcimer, 3.00pm-4.00pm – Both in St Peter’s Hall

Over the last few years, the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust has been adding the East Anglian tuned Dulcimer to its library of Instruments which are hired out. Come and have a go under the watchful eyes of Norfolk maker and restorer Richard Blake from 3.00pm-4.00pm. We also have expert tuition from English Concertina player Mike Acott and Melodeon player Jill Parson from 10.30am-11.30am (both St Peter’s Hall).

Storytelling
12.30pm; 1.45pm; 3.00pm in The Library

East Anglian based storyteller Justine de Mierre will be telling local, national and international tales suitable for audiences from 0 to 100! You can catch her at 12.30pm, 1.45pm and 3pm in the library.

Puppet Show
11.30am; 1.00pm; 2.00pm; 3.30pm – In The Library Courtyard

Visit the Library Courtyard for a charming puppet story Up Jumped The Crab: A Story Of Cromer Now And Then, presented by Crooked Timber Theatre. A charming puppet story in miniature showing a day at sea with the Cromer crab fishermen of North Norfolk. 

Set to the music of Bob Roberts, Tony Hall and Percy Brown with puppets by Gemma Khawaja. 25 mins approx duration. Suitable for all ages. Shows at 11.30am, 1pm, 2pm & 3.30pm.

Music Sessions

Pop along to The Walnut, 11 Market Place, The Pallet Bar and the John Peel Centre (from 10.30am-2.30pm) for various music set ups – closed sessions, open sessions and busking spots. More details to follow.

Blaxhall Ship Exhibition – Scout Centre Meeting Room

Come and browse a collection of Blaxhall Ship Memorabilia and chat with curators of this exhibition John Marshall Potter and Simon Saunders. 11am-4pm.

Art Exhibition in the Fox Yard Studio

quARTet is a two week exhibition which opens in September spotlighting on four of our performers at Traditional Music Day who are also wonderful artists. We are delighted to be showing work by Fiona Davies, Michael Sheehy, Gemma Khawaja & Karen Cater.
