The Argyll Rout is also known as “The Weymouth Fleet†in the manuscript of James Haslingden (1827) and “The Weymouth Quickstep†in the manuscript of James Winder from Lancashire (1830s) and was published under this name in the Charlton Memorial Tunebook (1954) and Hardcore English (2007). A rout was an informal private ball. The Argyll Rooms in Regent Street, London, was a fashionable venue for dancing at this period.
