Traditional Music Day 2016

This is held at the Museum of East Anglian Life, which provides many small intimate spaces suitable for our style of music-making, where guests and participants mix and mingle in informal sessions around the site.

This year the weather was exceptionally cold and this did affect the atmosphere of the day to some extent, as people were understandably not so keen on sitting about outside, relaxing and playing music, as is usual. However, the indoor events were full to the rafters and we had lots of good comments including ‘stunning’ and ‘revelatory’ applied to all our main guests by the audience. We were pleased to welcome back last year’s winners of the children’s competition, brothers Rowan and Finn Scourfield who are both continuing to play music and stepdance.

The ceilidh was well-attended with people keen to take some exercise to stay warm! The ‘Traditional Night Out in the Tithe Barn’ was enlivened this year by people sitting in woolly hats and sleeping bags … inside! However they were richly entertained by the superb roster of guests, and stayed to the end to savour every last moment of a tremendous day.
